Coimbatore : A 29-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant when he was returning home atPannimadai on the outskirts, in the early hours of Monday

According to police, Ganeshan, a driver, was returning home in Sanjeevi Nagar past midnight and a lone elephant moving in the jungles suddenly chased and attacked him.

He received serious injuries on his head, abdomen and legs and anti-poaching watchers, who were on rounds, noticed this and managed to get an ambulance to send him to the Government Hospital here.

However, Ganeshan was declared brought-dead, police said.

The elephant was chased away to the jungles after bursting of crackers.
