MCOP case: Poultry farm owner’s wife gets Rs 35 lakh as compensation

Thanjavur: The Motor Accident Case Claims Tribunal here ordered the private insurance company to pay a compensation of Rs 35 lakh to the next of kin of a poultry farm owner who died in a road accident in 2014.

According to the prosecution, Saminathan (32), resident of Nambivayal village in Pattukottai taluk and running a poultry farm in Coimbatore, was proceeding in his motorcycle to Veera Kaliyamman temple in Perambur on October 7, 2014 when a lorry hit his motorcycle near the Moonumangollai arch on the Sengipatti-Pattukottai road. Saminathan sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot.

Saminathan’s wife Jhansi Rani (31) filed a petition before the Motor Accident Case Claims Tribunal in Thanjavur praying direction to Tata AIG General Insurance Company to pay a compensation subsequent to the death of her husband, sole bread-winner of the family, in the accident.

Principal Sub Judge Poornajaya Anand, delivering his verdict in the case on Monday, ordered the manager of TATA AIG General Insurance company, Chennai, to pay Rs 35,52,520 as compensation to Jhansi Rani.
