Coimbatore : Thoppu Venkatachalam today resigned as the AIADMK Amma Peravai deputy secretary citing “personal reasons.”

A former minister in the Jayalalithaa cabinet, Venkatachalam, a MLA representing Perundurai in Erode District, met chief minister, K Palanisamy at his residence in Salem this evening and submitted the resignation.

Emerging out of the residence of Palanisamy, Venkatchalam told reporters that he has handed over his resignation letter to the chief minister.

“I have resigned only from the post due to personal reason and will continue to be a primary and loyal member of AIADMK,” he said when asked about the sudden decision.

“I do not want to comment on anything,” Venkatachalam said when asked whether the decision was based on allegations against him that he was of late supporting T T V Dhinakaran and that he was at odds with state Minister Karuppanan.

“There was no such thing, it was purely personal,” he said when asked whether this was because of the exit poll.

To another question on the response from Palanisamy, he said that this could be asked of the chief minister.
