More than 1000 people, including women and children, participated in the fourth Asian Obesity Run here on Saturday.
The run, an initiative of International Excellence Federation of Bariatric Surgery, aims at spreading awareness about obesity and its consequences on the common man.
Organised by Dr. Praveen Raj, head of bariatric surgery, Gem Hospital, the 7-km run was flagged off by Hospital Chairman Dr. C. Palanivelu. He also distributed cash prize to the winners.
“The run aims to provide awareness about obesity as a disease,” Praveen Raj, who is also the President of the federation, said.
Similar runs were earlier held at Taiwan, Singapore and Bangkok.
