More than 1,400 BJP workers were arrested today when they attempted to stage protests in various places across the city, against the ‘functioning of the city corporation’ without any development activities.

The workers staged demonstrations at 70 places in the city, having 100 wards, raising slogans against the Corporation for the tardy progress in completing the works, including the underground drainage and roads in the city.

Prominent among those arrested were former MP and Coir Board Chairman, CP Radhakrishnan; Tamil Nadu State party general secretary, Vanati Srinivasan; and the District BJP president, CR Nandhakumar.
