Mother kills three-year-old over lover

A 21-year-old woman was arrested for killing her three-year-old child, whom she thought was an ‘obstacle’ to her relationship with a youth.
Divya of Selvapuram was staying with her parents after a quarrel with her husband. She was working as a salesgirl in one of the shops in Oppanakara Street during which she developed friendship with a youth.
When her parents objected to this citing her daughter’s future, Divya decided to get rid of the child. Accordingly she strangulated the child when it was sleeping on Friday night.
When Divya’s mother noticed the motionless child the next morning she rushed her to hospital where it was declared brought dead.
Based on a complaint from Divya’s brother, police arrested Divya who confessed to the crime. She was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
