Services of the ‘Heritage’ Nilgiris Mountail Rail (NMR) resumed today between Mettupalayam and Udhagamandalam after a break of three days. The trains were cancelled due to heavy rains in the Nilgiri district and the frequent landslides on the route.

Workers of the Salem Railway division’s engineering department cleared the entire stretch of tracks to make sure that it was safe for the trains to run.

The NMR train left Mettupalayam today at 7.10 AM and reached Coonoor at around 10.20 AM. The train was 20 minutes late, but the journey was smooth, the railway officials said. The train then left for Udhagamandalam.
