Traffic was disrupted for one hour as residents of Nallur today staged a road blockade on the Pollachi-Palakkad highway demanding shifting of the garbage dumping yard near Pollachi.

The residents, numbering over 100, squatted in the middle of the road and complained that frequent fire and resultant smoke caused breathing problems and heart-related issues to the people, particularly children. Despite several appeals, the authorities failed to take action, they said and added that they have been forced to take it to the streets to draw the authorities’ attention.

Senior district and police officials rushed to the spot and assured to take action in this regard.

The agitators said they would intensify their agitation if the authorities failed to fulfill their promise.
