Nearly 200 EB contract workers arrested in Coimbatore

Coimbatore : About 200 contract workers of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board were arrested here today, for staging demonstration seeking regularisation of their services.

Even as about 8,500 contract workers are on indefinite strike since the beginning of the month demanding for making permanent across the State, nearly 200 workers here staged a protest demonstration in front of Board office in Tatabad.

Raising slogans on their demands, the workers, led by District President, Karthikeyan, said that the Government should provide field assistant jobs to those taken before 1998, fix Rs.380 as daily wage for those appointed before 2008.

And those who were taken as contract workers after 2008 should be given the post of foreman without any tests or examinations, they said.

As there was no no permission, the workers were arrested.
