Being the largest hub for textile-related industries, there is a need to brand Coimbatore and take it to greater heights, Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry, president, Palani G Perisamy said today.

Speaking as chief guest at the 10th Editionof Texfair 2016, Periasamy said that the city was the largest hub not only for textiles and clothing manufacture but also for textile machinery, spares, accessories and equipment manufacture.

Stressing the need for branding the city, he suggested the need for organising “Fashion Shows” to improve marketability, with focus on quality.

Though there was tremendous potential to grow, the industry needed intervention of the State Government to make it globally competitive, he said.

Coimbatore has managed to sustain and develop manufacturing sector against all odds over a period of time among the textile clusters in India, he said..

The four-day fair, organised by Southern India Mills Association is showcasing textile machinery, spares and accessories with 220 exhibitors, including a few from Foreign countries, displaying their products and services.
