Thoorigai Charitable Trust, a Coimbatore-based NGO, has launched a Whatsapp group for voluntary blood donors in Tamil Nadu.

Thoorigai Charitable Trust was founded by R. Ranjitkumar a few years ago. The trust works towards serving the people in the tribal pockets of the state. “Ever since we formed this trust, we have been receiving several requests for blood donation. This has prompted us to start a project in this direction. Through Whatsapp we have started creating a list of active blood donors across the state,” Ranjitkumar says.

Within a few days of initiating the project, Thoorigai Charitable Trust has managed to create a database of nearly a hundred donors who are ready to donate blood to the families of the tribal region as and when the need arises.

Its founder clarifies that this trust is not involved in collection and storage of blood.

The NGO is now creating a database of potential donors across the state. Those who are interested in enrolling as potential donor can send a Whatsapp message to 88704-42617 with details like their name, blood group, mobile number, and the city or town where they reside. The details will be updated in the group.
