Nine detained for bid to sexually abuse minor girl

Coimbatore : In a case of suspected sexual abuse by a gang in Pollachi, nine persons have been detained for interrogation, following a complaint by the relatives of a 16-year-old girl.
According to police, the girl, a 10th standard student, staying with her grandmother, had developed friendship a few months ago with a youth in Kumaran Nagar in Pollachi, some 35 km from here.
The youth reportedly called the girl to his house on Friday morning. When both were engaged in a talk, a few friends of the youth entered and attempted to sexually abuse her, police said.
However, the girl managed to escape and narrated the incident to her relatives. They complained to All Women Police Station and police nabbed nine persons late last night and detained them for interrogation, they said.
The incident created anxiety in Pollachi, which witnessed another case of sexual harassment by a gang of a 19-year-old girl, taking her video in nude and blackmailed her some five months ago. The case is being probed by CBI.
