Members of the CITU’s EB staff wing held a protest in Coimbatore condemning the false report submitted by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), which said that no contract workers were employed to carry out its tasks. The protesters claimed that various construction works of the TANGEDCO were carried out by contract employees.

The protest was held in front of the TANGEDCO office at Tatabad. The secretary of the south zone, A. Arulraj, led the protest. The president of the union, S. Vannamuthu, and the Coimbatore zonal secretary R. Madhusudhanan addressed the protesters. Senior members of the ex-TANGEDCO workers union too expressed their support.

The agitators demanded that the false report, stating that no contract workers were employed, be withdrawn. Their demands include regularization of the contract workers, issuing identity cards for them, and to provide treatment and compensation to the contract workers for on-job mishaps.
