Girls have outdone boys with a difference of almost seven percent this time in the Plus Two board examinations. While the pass percentage among girls was an impressive 94.4, it was 87.9 for the boys.

A total 8.3 lakh students appeared for the exams all over the state, with 4.19 lakh girls and 3.41 lakh boys. The overall pass percentage however has improved to 91.4 from 90.6 last year.

Students from backward areas have performed comparatively better than those from the cities. In fact, the top scorers in Tamil Nadu are batchmates Aarthi and Jaswanth, from Vidya Mandir, in Oothangarai, Krishnagiri district.

They had scored 1195 out of 1200, with Tamil as the first language. Chathriya Kavin, from Good Sheperd Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, had also scored 1195, but French was her first language.

The second and third highest scorers were Pavithra G., from Tiruvallur and Velupreetha from Namakkal, with 1194 and 1193, respectively.

The trend was noticed among districts too, with Erode topping the list with 96.92 percent, followed by Perambalur, 96.73. The sate capital’s pass percentage stood at 91.81, slightly above the state average.

4341 students scored a perfect 100 in accountancy. There was an increase in centum among chemistry students (from 1049 last year to 1703 this time), but there was a dramatic fall in perfect 100s in mathematics and physics.
