Chennai: Opposition parties have called for a state-wide hartal on April 25 demanding immediate action on the part of State and Central governments in resolving the issues of farmers.
A meeting of Opposition parties chaired by DMK working president M.K.Stalin at the DMK headquarters here resolved for the state-wide shutdown and condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not meeting the farmers protesting in Delhi. The meeting also decided to meet Modi along with farmers to highlight their issues.
The Opposition also wanted the state government to waive all farm loans and convene a special session of the Assembly to take up farmers’ issues.
The meeting also passed resolutions urging the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board, the Cauvery Regulatory Authority, declare the Cauvery delta region as Special Agriculture Zone and scrap the hydro-carbon project.
