A total of 1,884 women students will receive their degrees at the 28th convocation of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women on February 25 here.
This will include 1,395 undergraduates, 336 post graduates, 60 M.Phil scholars and 93 (47-full time and 46 part time) Ph. D scholars.
Students who have secured distinction in their respective academic streams will be awarded gold medals and felicitated for their meritorious performance, the University Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Prema Vijayan, told reporters here today.
UGC Secretary, Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, will deliver the convocation address and the Chancellor, Dr. P.R. Krishnakumar, will confer the degrees to the students.
In recognition of his office and distinguished services in the field of sports medicine, Dr. Sandhu will be conferred Doctor of Medicine (honoris causa) on the occasion.
Dr. Sandhu has established the first and only department of Sports Medicine in the Indian University system, besides introducing unique and novel courses in sports sciences, such as Ph. D and Doctor of Medicine in Sports Medicine, Masters in Sports Physical Therapy, Masters in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition and Master in Sports Psychology, she said.
