The pending November wages to the estate workers in Valparai in the district will be disbursed through banks from tomorrow and the exercise will be completed in another 10 days.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired here today by District Collector T N Hariharan, in which Valparai MLA Kasthurivasu, DRO T Christuraj, officials from the Labour Department and banks participated.

There were some procedural wrangles in disbursing last month’s salary due to the scrapping of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2,000 notes, so to mitigate the sufferings of the workers the salary will be disbursed door to door from tomorrow.

Accordingly, officials from State Bank of India, Indian Bank and Union Bank of India will go to the respective estate offices and distribute salaries in the presence of estate management, Hariharan told the meeting.

The date of the visit of officials to the estates will be announced in advance.

The entire exercise of disbursement will be completed in another 10 days. Workers without bank accounts will be asked to open one with immediate effect, Hariharan said.
