Members of the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin Peravai petitioned District Collector Archana Patnaik seeking to take action against the contractor at the Anna Market two wheeler parking lot for exploiting the public, here on Monday.

According to P. Manickam, the District Head of the Association, the parking lot was contracted to a person according to the rules and regulations of the city Corporation.

“The contract suggests that the contractor should collect Re. 1 for bicycle and Rs. 2 for motor cycles. However, the contractor is collecting Rs. 5 for both the vehicles,” he alleged.

He further alleged that the contractor did not give proper receipt to customers and also claimed that money was collected from people who parked their vehicle on the side walk.

“Around 4000 vehicles use the parking lot on a daily basis and all of them have to rush. The contractors take advantage of people’s lack of time and exploit them,” he claimed.

He also stated that the members of the Association have already petitioned the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan and the corporation Mayor P. Rajkumar regarding the same.

“We have requested the Collector to send the respected officials and terminate the contract of the contractor. The parking lot should also be auctioned to new contractors,” said Manickam.
