Coimbatore : Police today got the custody for five days of the three suspected IS sympathisers who allegedly conspired to stage terror attacks on temples and churches in the city.
Police had submitted a petition in the principal district court seeking eight-day custody for interrogation of three persons arrested under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Mohammed Hussain, Shahjahan and Sheik Shafiullah were arrested on June 15 after searches in their houses and some digital devices and incriminating documents were seized.
The searches were conducted based on information that the trio were staunch supporters of IS and had been propagating the proscribed terrorist organisation’s ideology in social media and also supported Zahran Hashim, the mastermind of Sri Lanka Church Easter blast. They had praised his act and conspired to stage terror attacks on temples and churches in Coimbatore.
Earlier, they had been remanded in judicial custody till June 28.
