The over fortnight-long strike by power loom job work unit owners has been called off after an agreement on wages.

The agreement was reached during tripartite negotiations convened by the District collector.

The unit owners and workers were on an indefinite strike from April 2 seeking payment of full wage as agreed in 2014, following textile manufacturers paying lesser six months after the agreement.

As the tripartite meeting convened by Collector T N Hariharan remained inconclusive on April 17, the power loom owners announced relay hunger strike, even as the talks were posted for today.

Besides Hariharan and officials from Labour Department, representatives of textile manufacturers and job working units from Coimbatore and Tirupur attended the meeting.

Hariharan said strict action would be taken against those who paid lesser wages, leading to the calling off of the strike, according to Coimbatore district Power Loom Owners Association president, M C R Palanisamy.

The day for resumption operations would be decided tomorrow after a general body meeting, he added.
