Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured all possible assistance for the development of coir industry in India.
While appreciating the efforts of Coir Board and active participation of all coir producing states especially Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the India International Coir Fair 2016 (IICF) in Coimbatore, Modi assured all assistance for the coir industry, when the board chairman, C.P. Radhakrishnan, met him in New Delhi early today.
Radhakrishnan briefed the prime minister on the outcome of the four-day fair, which concluded in Coimbatore on July 18 last. The Prime Minister was appraised of the current scenario of the coir industry and the need for a paradigm shift in the advancement of technology in the Indian coir industry, an official release from the Board said.
Radhakrishnan also presented a portrait of the Prime Minister made in a coir mat, with 3,600 fibre tufts, as a memento of the event. The piece of work was made by Travancore Cocotuft, a leading coir exporter at Cherthala, and the showpiece had attracted lakhs of people who visited the fair, it said.
