About 50 transgenders today went on a silent procession in the city as a homage to the late Chief Minister. The transgenders gathered at Kavundanpalayam and paid floral tributes to the portrait of Jayalalithaa and went on a 3 km procession to TVS Nagar.
Coimbatore District Transgenders Association Secretary Poongulali said that there are nearly 480 transgenders in the district, and it was Jayalalithaa who provided basic amenities and green houses for them to have a decent life and image in society.
“Moreover, all the transgenders, without families, were provided with ration and Aadhaar cards, which gave us an identity,” Poongulali said.
