Coimbatore : A large number of people, belonging to different Hindu sub-sects today staged a demonstration protesting against the remarks by lyricist Vairamuthu against Andal, reverred by them.

The people belonging to Vaishnava, devotees of Perumal, and a group from Brahmin Association gathered near South Taluk office and raised slogans against Vairamuthu and sought his unconditional apology.

Meanwhile, a group of persons, including women, owing allegiance to Hindu Makkal Katchi also joined the demonstration and sang stanzas of ‘Thiruppaavai’ written by Andal.

Hindu Makkal Katchi president Arjun Sampath said Vairauthu should apologise for his denigrating remarks against Andal, who is held in high esteem across the State.
