PSG holds industry academia conclave

Coimbatore: PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research recently organized a Industry Academia Conclave -2018 with the theme ‘New Age Business and Engineering Education’. The focus was to help the academia stay update with changing technologies and industrial paradigms.

Many distinguished experts from reputed industries took part in the conclave and the inaugural session started with a positive talk by TCS EIS business head Senkathir Selvan, who was also the chief guest.

Senkathir spoke on Industry 4.0 which involves Internet of Things for cyber physical systems. Expectation of the industry was changing rapidly and engineers needed to be more agile in learning and applying all classroom study into products.

Dr. Sundaresan Krishnan from Infosys stressed on the need for engineers to achieve excellence through continuous reading and set a benchmark for themselves. The Ministry of Electronics and IT shared about the growth towards digital media and the way the Government supported software entrepreneurs for this. Prakash Mahendran spoke on design of bridges and motivated students to be strong in fundamentals of structural engineering.

Retired PWD Chief Engineer R Ilangovan highlighted the opportunities for civil engineers in government sectors and emphasised the role of budding engineers in the development of Indian infrastructure.

The session by S Karthik was an interactive one where students came out with very curious questions on the aerospace industry, like the mystery of missing Malaysian aircraft, supersonic Concorde flights, engine failures in aircraft.

The conclave emerged as a platform for combining the best academic thinking of students with the industry’s relevant expertise.
