In order to create a multidisciplinary team approach for diagnosis and management of patients with pulmonary hypertension, PSG Hospitals has started a Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic at the Department of Cardiology in the hospital campus in Coimbatore.
According to a release from the hospital, the clinic will include a cardiologist, pulmonologist, physician, rheumatologist, trained nurse and exercise therapist who are to follow a structured protocol for evaluation and ensure comprehensive management involving non pharmacological measures.
“The clinic will provide a structured evaluation and integrated management for a patient with pulmonary hypertension involving cardiologist, pulmonologist, rheumatologist and physician; right heart study and vaso reactivity testing; minute hall walk test; exercise and rehabilitation and guideline directed selective pulmonary vasodilator therapy,” the release added.
According to sources, exercise therapy, rehabilitation, vaccination and lifestyle modification also play an important role in management of patients with the ailment, which causes the increase of blood pressure in the arteries to the lungs.
