Pvt. insurance firm ordered to pay Rs. 11.37 lakh compensation

The second additional district sessions court in Thanjavur yesterday ordered the Madurai branch of a private insurance company to pay Rs 11.37 lakh compensation to the family of a woman who was killed in a road accident in April this year.

Jayakumari, 39, daughter of Irudhayaraj and resident of Saveriyar Koil street, Sarukkai village near Thanjavur, was on her way to a tea shop on the Thanjavur-Thiruvaiyaru road at 5 p.m. on April 16, when she was fatally run over by a speeding car. Jayakumari was working as a daily wager in a stone-quarry.

The Thanjavur town traffic police registered a case and conducted investigation.

Meanwhile, Jayakumari’s father Irudhayaraj filed a petition before the second additional district sessions court in Thanjavur praying direction to the Madurai branch of the Cholamandalam Insurance Company to pay compensation following the Jayakumari’s death.

In his order, Judge Balasubramanian directed the Madurai branch of the insurance company to pay a compensation of Rs 11,37,500 to Irudhayaraj.
