Right from his college days, Chennai-based Aravind Jayapal has been connected with various activities of NGOs. In 2011, Aravind founded a youth-based social organisation, ‘Raindropss’. This works on delivering social awareness messages to the public in the form of short movies and theme songs through entertainment and videos.

It was in 2011 that the founder of this organisation created an awareness video on eye donation titled ‘Vizhigal’. The video was launched by Niranjan Bharathi, the great grandson of Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi and son of prolific musician Rajkumar Bharathi. The awareness video was officially released by A.R. Raihanah, A.R. Rahman‘s sister. She was so impressed by the video and the cause of this organisation that she decided to join hands with the founder. A.R. Raihanah is now the music director and brand ambassador of ‘Raindropss’.

The following year, Raindropss worked on the creation of yet another video with a message about environmental conservation titled ‘Ithu Namma Bhoomi’. This video was supported by Coimbatore-based Park Group. “The message of the video was to save mother earth. The creation of the theme song was sponsored by Park Group,” Aravind shares.

At present, three people are the core members of Raindropss. This organisation is looking to expand its presence in Coimbatore too. Its founder shares with us that Raindropss is already connected to Coimbatore. “Last year when Chennai experienced floods, we received two truckloads of relief material from Park Institutions. Also we have recognised two women achievers from Coimbatore in our annual Women’s Day award ceremony.

We are now looking to establish a presence in Coimbatore too. We would like to start our ‘Feed the Needy’ programme in Coimbatore soon,” Aravind says. As part of the programme, on one particular day of every week, a team of volunteers purchase packets of food from an eatery and the same is distributed to the people on the streets of Chennai.
