A nationwide awareness rally called “Rally for Rivers” to save India’s rapidly drying rivers will kick start from
here tomorrow.

The rally is a rising movement aimed at reviving and rejuvenating the depleting rivers of India and a public event to create awareness on it is organized here tomorrow.

Isha Foundation Founder, Jaggi Vasudev , Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore, Cricketer Virendra Sehwag, Indian Cricket women team captain, Mithali Raj and Formula One racer Narain Karthikeyan will be among those present at the event.

Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister S PVelumani, Tamil Nadu Agriculture University Vice Chancellor, Prof K.Ramasamy will be present at the function.

This is a massive awareness campaign to catalyze policy and action to increase the basic water flow of rivers and the government must immediately create a policy that will offer scientific solutions to increase soil fertility and rejuvenate river flow and bring about an economic transformation in the lives of the farmers.

An expert committee of environmental scientists and lawmakers are in the process of drawing up a draft policy recommendation. One of the very simple yet effective means to replenish the rivers is to create a kilometer-wide tree cover on riversides (and half a kilometer for tributaries).

This recommendation also includes many other economic and ecological non-negotiables, which will be submitted to the Central Government and State Chief Ministers. At the same time, such a political law can only be implemented with the support of the public.

As an effort to generate awareness on saving the rivers, Sadhguru will be traveling across India for 30 days, driving a car all by himself for around 7,000km.

Some BSF jawans will be traveling along with the participants of the nation wide rally which starts on the 60th birthday of Sadhguru.
