COIMBATORE: P Nagarajan (AIADMK), representing Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency, on Saturday said that he was ready to quit his membership over formation of Cauvery Managament Board.

“With State wide protests and AIADMK MPs boycotting Parliament and staging demonstrations over the issue, I am ready to resign from Lok Sabha for the cause,” Nagarajan told reporters here.

Stating the Cauvery issue was not confined to Thanjavur belt alone, but the entire Tamil Nadu, he said that once Cauvery dried up, there was the threat of acute shortage of food grains in the State. “If the board is not constituted now, it will not be done in future too,” he said.

Nagarajan accused the Centre of delaying the formation in view of the Assembly elections in Karnataka, thus betraying the people of Tamil Nadu.

Without further delay, the Government should constitute the board as per the directive of the Supreme court, he said adding that if not, he was ready to step down as MP for the benefits of the Tamils.
