Retired bank employee’s house looted; burglars take 10 sovereign gold

Thanjavur: Burglars, who entered the locked house of a retired bank employee near Kumbakonam in the wee hours, looted and escaped with 10 sovereigns of gold kept in the bureau.

Mahaligam, residing at Thirumalai Nagar in Thirunageswaram near Kumbakonam, and his family were not home when the burglary took place. They had gone to a relative’s house at Koothanur village the day before yesterday.

Taking advantage of this, the unidentified burglars gained entry into the house after breaking open its lock.

A shocked Mahalingam came home to find the door lock broken open and the jewellery stolen. On being informed, Thiruneelakudi police rushed to the house, inspected the scene of crime and conducted an inquiry. Based on his complaint, police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
