Robbery case solved after six years, Rs12L worth cash and gold recovered

Coimbatore : Police today claimed to have solved a six-year-old robbery case, where cash and gold ornaments worth about Rs15 lakh were stolen from a closed hotel room in the city, where a London-based couple was staying Jyothi and Karthikeyan were staying at the hotel in Gandhipuram and found that jewels and cash were missing when they returned the room on the night of November 20, 2012.

Based on the CCTV footage, police identified the robbers as Jayesh Ravijii Seipal and his friend Ramesh Banerjee and two special teams were formed to nab them.

City police came to know that Jayesh was arrested in connection with a robbery case and lodged in the Central Jail in Hyderabad in March last. With a magisterial order, a special police team left and interrogated the accused, police said.

Based on the confession by Jayesh that he has kept the money and jewels in a locker in a bank in Mumbai, the team left for there and managed to recover the valuables, they said.

The total value of the recovery was Rs 8.33 lakh in cash and Rs 4 lakh worth of gold, police said.
