Rs.8.4 lakh seized in CBE district, Rs.1.67 crore seized in Nilgiris so far

Coimbatore : Static Surveillance Team Thursday seized unaccounted cash of Rs.8.40 lakh from two persons during vehicle check at two places in the district.

According to election department sources, Rs.7.21 lakh were seized from a car in the wee hours. Though the occupant, Mano claimed that the cash was brought for business purpose, the official seized it since there were no no valid documents, they said.

Similarly another team seized Rs.1.20 lakh from Benny, hailing from Kerala, during the vehicle check near Mettupalayam in the rural limits.

All the cash were deposited in the treasury.
   
Meanwhile, the teams in nearby Nilgiris district seized Rs.1.69 crore till Thursday during vehicle check across the district.

Of the total seizure Rs.18;20 lakh were returned to the owners and the balance deposited in the treasury.
