COIMBATORE: A staff in the Central Jail in Salem was caught red handed on Friday while accepting Rs.10,000 bribe to facilitate the transfer of a prisoner undergoing life imprisonment to Chennai jail.
According to police, Saravanan, in prison for the last 17 years and wanted to shift to Puzhal Jail in Chennai, since his daughter is working in Chennai, so that her visits can be made easier.
As the R2 clerk M. Vijayakumar sought Rs.10,000 for the transfer, Saravanan told his friend Mahindrakumar of Erode, who had come to visit him to make arrangement for the money.
However, Mahindrakumar approached Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption wing of police, who laid a trap and asked Mahindrakumar to call the jail official to a hotel near Bus Stand.
Vijayakumar was caught red handed with money given by Mahindrakumar and arrested him, police said.
