About 100 sanitary workers today held a demonstration at a city police station, seeking immediate action against a person who assaulted their colleague a couple of days ago.

The workers, who gathered in front of Singanallur police station, claimed that their colleague, Kanagaraj, was assaulted by Marimuthu, following some argument, leading to the former’s hospitalisation on December 10.

Kanagaraj has since been discharged, but despite complaints, police has not taken any action against Marimuthu and the workers picketed the station, seeking immediate action against the attacker.

Senior officials reassured the demonstrators that action would be taken, and the workers, including a few women, dispersed, police said.
