As a mark of respect to the late President, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, almost all the shopkeepers, traders and hotel owners shut shop on Thursday in Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris districts.

Shops and business establishments were closed even in tourist spots such as Udhagamandalam, Gudalur and Coonoor.

The usually busy tourist attraction areas like Botanical Gardens, Boat house, and Rose Park wore a deserted look, as tourists did not visit the town, following the holiday declared by the State Government.

In Tirupur, almost all the shops and trade were closed and knitwear manufacturers had declared a holiday today, as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Theatres also cancelled their shows.
