Sister Nivedita birth anniversary: Ratha yatra to cover 3,000 km in 30 days

COIMBATORE: Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan on Monday flagged off a rath yatra s part of 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Sister Nivedita, the disciple of Swami Vivekananda.

The rath (chariot) will visit 27 districts of Tamil Nadu covering 3,000 km in 30 days and reach Chennai on February 22, organiser and  BJP Tamil Nadu General Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan told reporters.

The rath, accompanied by 30 volunteers from as many as NGOs will spread the Sister Nivedita’s message to two lakh girl students across the State, she said.

Speaking on the occasion, Radhakrishnan said that Saffron belonged not to the Hindus as made out by others, but represented India, while the sacred book was nothing India Constitution revered by all.

In his address, film actor Vivek said that there may be many superstars in every State in films, but in India the real super star was former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and the only super super star in the World was Swami Vivekananda, whom Kalam worshipped and followed.

Heads of various mutts and educational institutions in and around the region were present on the occasion.
