A project called SPB Vanam, a 1.8-acre reserve site in Pachapalayam, Coimbatore, that will house 74 trees, as a tribute to the 74 golden years legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam spent on earth, was announced on October 16 as a tribute to the late legend.

Today, the same was officially launched on Siruthuli campus with actor Vivekh planting the first sapling. Vanitha Mohan, trustee of Green Kalam which the actor founded, was also present at the event.

It was just recently that land was allotted by the Perur Chettipalayam panchayat for the initiative, which also includes a walking track in the shape of a musical note for walkers and jogging enthusiasts.

The Officers Colony Association of Pachapalayam has volunteered to take care of the maintenance of the project. The trees would feature species used in musical instruments and those that reek of fragrance. An Ayilyam tree is also said to be planted in memory of the versatile singer’s star.

More amenities like play area for children, library, etc, are said to come up.
