Stage set for Jallikattu in Coimbatore tomorrow

Coimbatore:The stage was set for the first-ever Jallikkattu, the traditional brave sport of Tamil Nadu in here tomorrow.

As many as 750 bulls and 500 tamers had registered so far and would be allowed to participate after undergoing proper medical fitness test, District Collector TN Hariharan, who inspected the 25 acre of the arena this afternoon, said.

The event, being jointly organised by the City Corporation and Omkar Foundation, will be flagged off by Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani with Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman making a special address, he said.

A temporary gallery to accommodate about 5,000 people had been constructed and all arrangements to reach the Jallikkattu site in special buses on L&T Bypass had been made,Hariharan said. About 2,000 police personnel had been posted.
