Dogged by the illegal dumping of solid wastes near their college by the municipality, students of Cheran College of Nursing near Perur have sought the intervention of District Collector Archana Patnaik.

The students claimed that the municipality officials paid no heed to their repeated requests.

“The dumping has been going on for many months and officials have been ignoring our requests. The stench and bacteria emanating from the wastes are causing illness,” a student said.

The students earlier sought help of Pollution Control Board that had issued a notice to the municipal administration on May 2 last to stop the dumping immediately and to find and alternative place. “The officials have been reluctant in heeding to our pleas and PCB order. This would be a problem not only for us but also to the residents here,” students say.
