Tamil Nadu today witnessed a 20 percent partial solar eclipse for about 27 minutes between 6.21 AM to 6.48 AM today, despite the cloudy skies.

Solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets in between the Sun and the earth and casts its shadow on the earth by partially blocking the Sun away.

In the state capital, people gathered in large number at the famed Marina Beach to witness the partial eclipse. Special arrangements were made at the Birla Planetarium in the city for enthusiasts to view the celestial event.

The next solar eclipse, visible in India, will occur on December 26, 2019.
