Coimbatore : About 150 members of Federation of Tourist Taxi and Call Taxi Drivers Association on Tuesday staged a demonstration here seeking the police department to treat them with dignity.

The demonstration was in protest against the alleged behaviour of police with a driver Rajesh Kumar of Chennai, which led to his suicide by jumping before a train a few days ago.

Rajesh had released a video clipping citing the reason for his extreme step, which had gone viral, the association sources said.

In the backdrop of the harassment meted out to Rajesh, the drivers sought police department to give them respect and treat with dignity.

They had also submitted a memorandum to the police officials to sensitise the police personnel on the issue, they said.
