A teenager was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting and impregnating his cousin sister near Kovanur here.

According to police, Indran (19), a daily wage labourer, who had been to his aunt’s house to take part in a festival some six months ago, sexually assaulted his cousin sister, an eighth grader. He had also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

The incident came to light when the girl complained of severe stomach ache and doctors attended to her revealed that she was five-months pregnant. Considering her health condition, the pregnancy was terminated medically, police said.

Based on a complaint at the All Women Police Station in Thudiyalur, a case was registered against Indran under Protection of children from sexual Offence Act 2012. He was immediately arrested.

The blood samples of both Indran and the girl were taken. It would be sent for test in a laboratory in Chennai, police added.
