The Coimbatore Corporation has finally found a place in DB road to set up a multi-level car parking. This is expected to bring about a solution to the parking woes in the area.

The officials of the civic body have been considering three places including Big Bazaar Street, Cross Cut Road and DB Road to set up the first multi-level car parking in the city.

According to a senior official of the corporation, the officials have finally finalized DB road for the pilot project and that is expected to be the forerunner for the rest.

Currently the officials are working on the finances and would soon be sending the project report to the Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure and Financial Services Limited (TNUIFSL) so as to obtain funds. The DB Road car parking was previously estimated to accommodate 111 passenger car equivalents and the proposal was given by the corporation in 2008.

The official further added that once the finances were worked out, the civic body would start inviting applicants for the tenders. “We would be start calling up for tenders as earlier next year,” said the official.
The city currently has a couple multi-level parking systems for two wheelers in Ukkadam and Gandhipuram.
“If implemented the parking lot would help the public park their cars safely and allow more space on the road for vehicles to move without congestion,” said the official.
