Three deaths due to heart attack and two suicide attempts were reported from the region in the last 24 hours, following reports of deteriorated health condition of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, who passed away last night in Chennai.
A 65-year old man, a painter by profession, complained of chest pain while watching the news about Jayalalithaa yesterday afternoon in his house at Singanallur here. However, he died before being taken to the hospital, police said.
In another incident, a 62-year old Palaniammal of Thudiyalur on the out skirts died of shock after watching television last aftenoon.
A 38-year-old head load worker, Raja of Erode swooned in a sitting position on the chair, while watching television. Though his wife called 108 (ambulance service) for assistance, the crew, on arrival, declared him dead.
Meanwhile, one Loganathan attempted to commit suicide by jumping down from a 50-foot tall mobile tower in Kuniamuthur in the city, in the early hours of yesterday.
However, police rushed to the spot and managed to convince and brought him down and sent with a stern warning.
In another attempt, the 45-year old Ramachandran, an AIADMK worker, poured kerosene and tried to set himself on fire near Annur. With 60 per cent burns, he is being treated at the Government Hospital here.
