COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Government announced a ban on manufacture, sales, storage and usage of disposable plastic in the State from January 1, 2019.
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami made the announcement under Rule No. 110 in the State Assembly on Tuesday.
While non-biodegradable plastic covers, plates, cups, water packets, straws and bags have been banned, plastic materials used for packing milk, curd, oil and medicines have been exempted.
The Chief Minister appealed to the people to cooperate and make Tamil Nadu a plastic free State.
