TN Govt responsible for Thoothukudi firing: Vasan

Covai Post Network

Coimbatore : Blaming intelligence failure leading to violence and firing and resultant deaths in Thoothkudi, Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Vasan today said the Tamil Nadu Government should own up the responsibility for the entire incident.

In view of the escalating violence, both the Central and State Governments should take steps to close down the plant, without any political consideration, Vasan told reporters at the city airport.

Intelligence failure had led to the situation and the Government should own up and take immediate steps to bring the situation to normal as people were suffering without getting essential items, he said. The present Government did not realise the gravity of the matter and the mental agony of the people in that area.

He blamed the Centre for the steep increase of petrol and diesel prices and wanted them to be brought under GST. The State Government should come also forward to reduce excise duty to ease the situation, Vasan added.
