Coimbatore : The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University VC Dr K Ramasamy has lashed out at media reports that the Botanical Garden attached to the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University was seeking marriage certificate to permit entry of couples.

Speaking to The Covai Post he said that the garden was the property of the institution and not a public space. He said college students from outside bunked classes, brought girls and sat in the garden for the whole day and behaved inappropriately.

There are two departments inside the same premises, horticulture and medicinal plant department.

“They also bring liquor in pet bottles and drink inside. How can such things be permitted inside a teaching institution? Wouldn’t that become a news again if the institution turns a blind eye to such activities ? We have been continuously receiving complaints from our students, staff and also outsiders on the unpleasant activities. So we have sought ID cards and nothing more.”

” There are seven gates to this institution premises and we have restricted entry to two to prevent outsiders from entering the huge campus and indulging in unwanted activities. We allow organised crowd but for a couple their ID cards are sought , certainly not marriage certificate,” the VC added.
