A group of traders, affiliated to more than 20 associations, today gheraoed a police station in Valparai in the district, for not taking action against AIADMK workers, who had removed the black flags hoisted atop their shops a couple of days ago.

Almost all the traders in Valparai had closed their shops and hoisted black flags on their shops on October 21, to protest against the failure of the government in promoting tourism activities, among other things, in the area.

Some AIADMK workers had reportedly threatened some shopkeepers and removed the flags and the traders had lodged a complaint with the police station, against it. The traders today gathered in front of the police station and sought immediate action against them.

They dispersed after assurance of action from senior police officials.
