In order to share knowledge about the latest trends in denture making, a two day Dental Lab Expo and Conference is being organised in the city from April 29.
The conference, the first of kind in India, will serve as a platform for interaction between the dental technicians and dentists and adopt and share best practice, develop and support members of the dental technology, Organising Chairman of the Conference, Dr V R Thirumurthi told reporters here today.
Despite acute shortage of dental technicians across the country, no one was coming forward to open a technical college, due to high investment required in the field, Thirumurthi said.
As against the 40 dental colleges in Tamil Nadu only four to five technical colleges were in operation, thus leaving a big gap of technicians here, he said.
Even, similar was the case across the Nation as only 79 colleges existed for the aspiring dental technicians, leaving only one technician for 100 dentists, Thirumurthi said.
About 3,000 technicians from across country are expected to participate in the conference to update their knowledge with 40 stalls exhibiting the latest equipment , Ex-Army man, who received the President’s award in the field, Dr Anwardeen Gani, said.
The technician’s job is very lucrative, but due to very limited colleges and diploma courses, people are not getting enough opportunity to take up the courses, Gani said.
