Undertrial found hanging dead

COIMBATORE: A 68-year-old undertrial lodged in the Central Jail here was found hanging dead in his cell in the wee hours of Friday.

Duraisamy of Vijayamangalam in Tirupur district, was arrested on charges of reported attempt for sexual assault on a minor girl two months ago and lodged in the jail here.

According to police, other inmates of the cell noticed Duraisamy hanging with his towel on an iron rod inside the cell and alerted officials, who rushed to the spot.

Duraisamy was taken to the jail hospital where was declared brought dead.

The body was sent for postmortem to Government Hospital. Investigations are on.
